Lead Teacher of Key Stage 3

Lead Teacher of Key Stage Three

Start date: September 2023
Contract type: Full time
Contract term: Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2 £7368

Come to work in a thriving and exciting community. Callerton Academy is a growing secondary school committed to providing the very best education for pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. Based in our excellent temporary site, formerly a school building which has been reconfigured in Newcastle’s Graingertown, we have access to a range of brilliant facilities. We will move to our brand-new site which will have capacity for 1200 students in 2025; this is located to the northwest of the city – close to Westerhope, Kingston Park and Newcastle International Airport.

We are one of two new schools within Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust and will be welcoming our third cohort of students when the position starts meaning that we will have Years 7, 8 and 9. As a growing school and Multi-Academy Trust there are numerous opportunities for professional development and future career progression.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a dynamic and motivated leader to help shape the future of our school. You may already have a role with significant pastoral responsibility, for example as a Head of Year or a Pastoral Lead, or you may be ready to take your first step into a pastoral middle leadership position, having had different experiences to support you in preparing for this role.

The post will specifically focus on managing the day-to-day attendance, behaviour and wellbeing of our students in Key Stage Three. This will include working closely with and leading our two non-teaching Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisors, as well as leading a team of twelve tutors. You will also work closely with the school’s Attendance and Welfare Officer to support with student attendance. Our pastoral team is led by our Senior Lead for Safeguarding, Behaviour and Attendance and you will work closely with them to fulfil the school’s strategic aim which you will help to shape and develop.

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is an excellent teacher in their subject (we are open to any subject specialism) and is passionate about working with young people. You should have a strong understanding of what effective pastoral provision looks like and be confident engaging with parents and carers, as well as be prepared to work with other external agencies. The post requires you to be part of the school’s safeguarding team, working closely with the DSL, and therefore this will sometimes require you to make sensitive and informed decisions.

We are developing a strong team of practitioners at Callerton Academy who are versatile and keen to be involved in many and varied aspects of school life; particularly during the coming years while the school is growing. You will be an important part of our growing school and will be a consummate professional, practical and ‘hands-on’; able to enthuse and motivate colleagues and students alike.

This is a unique chance for someone looking to develop as a leader within a highly successful and supportive school multi academy trust, backed up by excellent resources and facilities.

What we need:

  • An outstanding practitioner
  • A passion for supporting student wellbeing and working in a pastoral role.
  • A proven track record of excellent progress and achievement across KS3 and potentially KS4
  • The ability to develop, lead and inspire a team of staff
  • A relentless drive to secure the best possible outcomes for students of all abilities and from all backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and ICT skills

We can offer you:

  • An opportunity to work with highly skilled professionals in school and across the MAT
  • Enthusiastic and motivated students
  • An exciting and extensive commitment to professional development
  • A school with its community at heart
  • A programme of staff well-being activities
  • Opportunities for future career progression in a growing school and large Trust
  • Staff parking

This is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference within a positive and exciting environment. If you share our community’s ethos of progression, diversity and dynamism then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Following the shortlisting process, where applicable, candidates who attend interview will be reimbursed reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation.

Gosforth Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undergo enhanced DBS clearance.
