From Callerton Academy : Start the day right with our FREE Breakfast Club, open to students from 8:00am! Students can grab some breakfast, including toast, cereal, bagels and fruit, giving them the chance to fuel up and get ready for the school day ahead. There's plenty to do before lessons begin too! Head to G18 for board games, G27 for our computer room chill zone, or the Drama Studio for Just Dance. From Callerton Academy : We're pleased to share information about the N.E.S.T. Community programme at Newcastle University, offering a range of free support for adults, children and families. Every Saturday from 11:00am–1:00pm, N.E.S.T. runs a Community Kids Club at the Hadrian Building on Newcastle University campus. Children can enjoy games, arts and crafts, reading, homework support and gaming, while parents can attend free English (ESOL) classes. There's no need to book – families can simply turn up! N.E.S.T. also offers free English (ESOL) classes throughout the week at a range of levels, from early beginner through to academic English. The 2026/27 programme begins on Monday 5th October, with sessions running during university term time. During Tuesday and Thursday classes, Health Navigator volunteers also offer drop-in support with completing medical forms, signposting to services and providing basic information. Science at Callerton Academy: Year 9 have begun their GCSE Science journey, starting with Cell Biology! Students have been learning about the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, before getting hands-on with microscopes to explore cells for themselves. They prepared their own slides of onion cells and cheek cells, using stains to make key structures easier to see under the microscope and comparing the features of plant and animal cells. Extra-Curricular at Callerton Academy: Callerton's Orchestra returns on Wednesday 23rd September! This year, we're excited to be working with Orchestras for All once again, giving our students the fantastic opportunity to perform at The Glasshouse! We have lots of fabulous new music to learn and can't wait to get started. Orchestra is open to students who already have some experience playing an instrument, from beginner level upwards. Extra-Curricular at Callerton Academy: Our boys headed over to Jesmond Park Academy for their first KS4 basketball tournament of the year a great afternoon of competitive games, teamwork and a chance to get the new season underway! Basketball training takes place every Thursday after school, and we're looking for more students to join our KS3 and KS4 teams.
