English at Callerton Academy Yesterday, our Year 10 and Year 11 students took part in a focused drop-down day, diving deep into English, Maths and Science with their subject teachers. To start the day, students enjoyed a fantastic three-person performance of A Christmas Carol perfectly tied to one of their GCSE English Literature set texts. The cast brought Dickens' characters to life on our stage, giving students a fresh, energetic perspective on themes and moments they'll soon be analysing in class. From the Ghost of Christmas Past to the Ghost of Christmas Present and the eerie visions Yet to Come , the production captured the spirit of Dickens' classic beautifully. Maths at Callerton Academy: Last week, we were delighted to welcome 15 trainee maths teachers from Newcastle University's ITaP cohort into school. They visited a range of maths lessons across Key Stage 3, observing high-quality teaching and seeing our students' fantastic focus and engagement in action. After the observations, the trainees worked collaboratively with our maths team to co-plan a series of lessons that they will deliver during their upcoming placements a brilliant opportunity for professional growth and shared practice. Maths & Art at Callerton Academy: Our talented Year 8 students have been working on a brilliant cross-curricular homework project combining Maths and Art and the results are absolutely fantastic! Using grid methods and scale factor techniques, students recreated famous North East landmarks and portraits with incredible precision and creativity. From detailed architectural drawings to bold, stylised portraits, the standard of work has been outstanding. A huge well done to all of our homework winners, who were celebrated in assembly this week! Winners will receive a special prize from the Maths and Art departments.
