View PostIT at Callerton Academy: Tuesday last week saw our second outing of the year for our Year 7 Coding Club, with a visit to the Maker Place at Gateshead Central Library a fantastic space packed with technology including 3D printers, laser cutters and more. This time, students used computerised embroidery machines to bring their designs to life, creating their own personalised felt coasters . Over the previous six weeks, they've been learning how to program these machines, developing their coding skills and computational thinking along the way. Students also took part in a Python coding challenge, building skills that will support them later this year when they begin programming in Python A big thank you to the Altitude Foundation for partnering with us on this project. They also offer a range of free holiday events (often including transport) that families can book directly more information can be found here: www.bit.ly/CyberSign Coding Club will now take a short break before returning in the summer term with a brand-new project keep an eye out for sign-ups! #CallertonAcademy #GosforthGroup #CreatingFutures #ComputingAtCallerton #CodingClub #STEM #DigitalSkills #FutureReady

View PostReading at Callerton Academy: Last Thursday we celebrated World Book Day by giving a book to every single student in school! Students also took part in the National Book Token competition, designing gift cards based on this year's theme of going "All In" on reading. The theme encourages us all to dive deeper into our hobbies and interests by picking up a book connected to something we love. We were really impressed by the creativity shown in these fantastic designs well done to all of the students involved! If you enjoyed creating your designs, why not check out the art section of our non-fiction shelves in the library and discover even more inspiration. Go all in on your hobbies, Callerton! #CallertonAcademy #GosforthGroup #CreatingFutures #CallertonScholars #WorldBookDay #ReadingForPleasure #LoveReading
View PostArt at Callerton Academy: Our Fashion Club students recently travelled to Hartlepool Art Gallery to see their incredible work on display as part of the "Making Waves" exhibition. The project explored maritime heritage through art, design and creative learning, with students creating mood boards and fashion concepts inspired by the sea and Hartlepool's rich coastal history. Seeing their designs professionally displayed in a gallery was a fantastic experience and a proud moment for everyone involved. The students loved exploring the exhibition space and spotting their own work hanging alongside pieces from other schools across the North East. A huge well done to all of the students for their creativity, imagination and hard work. #CallertonAcademy #CAExcellence #CreativeArts #StudentCreativity #SchoolArt #MakingWaves #HartlepoolArtGallery

View PostScience at Callerton Academy: Our Year 9 students have been investigating the organisation of plants and animals, exploring how specialised cells work together to form tissues, organs, and organ systems. In this practical lesson, students examined the underside of purple inch plant leaves under the microscope to observe stomata and their guard cells. These specialised cells control the opening and closing of the stomata, allowing plants to regulate gas exchange letting carbon dioxide in for photosynthesis while releasing oxygen and water vapour . Using microscopes, students were able to clearly identify the stomata and see how the guard cells surround the tiny pore that controls the movement of gases in and out of the leaf. A fantastic practical investigation and some brilliant microscopy work from Year 9! #ScienceAtCA #CallertonAcademy #CreatingFutures #GosforthGroup #Year9Science #Biology #Microscopy #PlantBiology #STEM
