Art at Callerton Academy: Yesterday, Year 7 welcomed Graeme Turnbull from Northumbria University into the Art department for a fantastic workshop supporting their Still Life project. Students had the opportunity to observe and draw from real insect specimens, developing their observational drawing skills whilst exploring shape, texture and detail. Graeme also demonstrated the fluorescent properties of certain insects and how they react under different lighting, helping students explore colour theory and iridescence within their artwork. Reading at Callerton Academy: We are proud to celebrate the fantastic reading achievements of our Year 7 students during our Reading Awards assembly! Students were recognised for their commitment to reading, including milestone achievements and becoming "Reading Millionaires" through the Accelerated Reader programme. It has been wonderful to see so many students developing a love of reading and challenging themselves with new books throughout the year. GCSE Exams at Callerton Academy: Today marks our first Year 11 full-cohort GCSE exam, beginning with English Literature. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, resilience and determination our Year 11 students have shown throughout this exam season so far. From revision sessions and interventions to the effort being put in every single day, students have approached this important time with real maturity and commitment. Maths at Callerton Academy: Another fantastic success for Tyler, who has achieved a Gold Certificate in the Grey Kangaroo round of the UKMT 2026 Challenge After achieving the highest score in school in the previous round, Tyler was invited to take part in this specialist round for top mathematicians across the country and has once again achieved Gold, placing him among the highest-performing students in his age group.
