Drama at Callerton Academy: Our GCSE Drama students have had an incredible experience this half term! Not only did they watch a stunning performance of Noughts & Crosses at Northern Stage, but they also took part in an inspiring workshop led by one of the show's directors from Pilot Theatre. Music at Callerton Academy: Members of our school orchestra had a fantastic time at an Orchestras For All workshop on Wednesday, as they continue preparing for their upcoming performance at The Glasshouse this June. Students worked closely with professional musicians, developing their ensemble skills, building confidence, and refining their performance pieces it was brilliant to see their progress and enthusiasm throughout the session. We even spotted a few conductors in the making... Careers at Callerton Academy: Today, our Year 10 students took part in a fantastic Apprenticeships Event, giving them the opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways beyond school. Students worked in groups to rotate around employer stalls, speaking directly with professionals about what their organisations do, the opportunities they offer, entry requirements, and the different routes into their industries. It was brilliant to see such thoughtful questions and genuine engagement throughout the event. We were delighted to welcome a wide range of employers, including Newcastle City Council, Siemens Energy, Northumbrian Water, the Police, DWP, Arnold Clark, and many more, who all gave their time to support and inspire our students. After school, it was great to see parents and carers join us to explore these opportunities alongside their children, helping to continue those important conversations about future pathways. IT at Callerton Academy: Tuesday last week saw our second outing of the year for our Year 7 Coding Club, with a visit to the Maker Place at Gateshead Central Library a fantastic space packed with technology including 3D printers, laser cutters and more. This time, students used computerised embroidery machines to bring their designs to life, creating their own personalised felt coasters . Over the previous six weeks, they've been learning how to program these machines, developing their coding skills and computational thinking along the way. Students also took part in a Python coding challenge, building skills that will support them later this year when they begin programming in Python A big thank you to the Altitude Foundation for partnering with us on this project. Art at Callerton Academy Our Year 9 students have been getting creative in Art, bringing their ideas to life by making their own shrunken heads in clay after designing their unique concepts. From initial sketches to final pieces, it's been fantastic to see students develop their designs and turn them into detailed 3D forms. The level of creativity and individuality in each piece has been brilliant! Callerton Academy's First Ever Prom! We are delighted to announce that Year 11 Prom 2026 has officially been launched this week and we're so excited to be celebrating Callerton Academy's very first prom! Passport to Prom This week, students were introduced to our Prom Stamp initiative. Students can earn stamps in the following categories: Attendance Behaviour Intervention Sessions Bonus Stamps Each student has received their Passport to Prom booklet, where they can begin collecting their stamps. Achieving stamps will support students in securing their place at prom so every day and every effort counts! Event Details Location: Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn Date: Tuesday 30th June 2026 Price: £40 per ticket There will be opportunities over the coming weeks for students to earn discounts on the price of the ticket. Timings Celebrations will begin at Callerton Academy, before students travel together to the venue at 6:45pm. Students will leave the venue to return to Callerton Academy at 11:00pm. Details on how to purchase tickets will be shared in due course. We can't wait to celebrate the achievements of our fantastic Year 11 students in style it's going to be a night to remember!
