Ofsted Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to you to share the news of our recent Ofsted inspection. Callerton Academy has been graded as a Good school under this inspection. As a new, growing school, we are thrilled with this result at this stage in our journey, but the result is far more than a one-word judgement. Our Ofsted report, which you can read in full below, is glowing about our school.

I’d like to highlight the first paragraph to you, ‘Pupils at this school are polite, friendly and respectful. They form positive relationships with each other and with staff. Staff show a genuine care for pupils. They share a commitment to provide pupils with the best possible education. Pupils thrive at this inclusive school.’

Inspectors were impressed with our exciting extra-curricular programme, ‘Pupils enjoy a rich and varied set of experiences. Every pupil takes part in the 7UP extra-curricular programme. Activities include Norwegian, origami, musical theatre, debating and sports. Pupils also make frequent visits to places of cultural interest.’

Of our curriculum and assessment, the inspector wrote: ‘The school has developed a broad and highly ambitious key stage 3 curriculum. It provides pupils with a deep and coherent body of knowledge that is preparing them well for their future studies at key stage 4 and beyond. Pupils produce work of a high quality and achieve well.’

Reading is embedded and encouraged at Callerton and it was mentioned as a huge positive, ‘The school’s central focus on reading helps pupils both to extend their vocabulary and develop a genuine love for reading. Reading is central to the life of the school.’

As I wrote in my letter after the inspection, the students, as usual, were an absolute credit to themselves, the school and you, their families. Inspectors wrote ‘Pupils have positive attitudes to their learning and behave well. The school acts effectively to address any behaviour that does not meet its high expectations.’

One of the school's aims is to ‘ensure a genuine equality of opportunity’, and it is pleasing to read that our SEND provision is successfully supporting our students who need additional and specialist support so they can access the full curriculum offering.

As a body of staff, we are never complacent, and we realise that there are still improvements to be made, particularly around school attendance, which we have plans to continue to address. Our priority remains to deliver the best we can for the students at Callerton Academy.

Of course, there are many highlights in the report, and I would encourage you to read it. We will be sharing this with students in school. All students have had 50 stamps added to their stamp total for this term.

Finally, I would like to reiterate my thanks to the whole school community, including students, staff, and families.  It is vitally important that we work closely with our parents and carers to effectively support our students in becoming successful young adults. This has been a massive effort from everyone, and we appreciate your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Innes, Principal
