Callerton Academy Permanent Site Newsletter: July 2024

Welcome to our summer information update about the building programme for our new school.

A lot has happened on-site since our last newsletter in March. We are delighted to report that despite some less than ideal weather conditions, the programme is progressing really well.

If you are passing by the site, you may be able to see that the steel frame erection has been finished. We can now see the outline of the whole school building. Initial work on the sports pitch has also taken place towards the back of the site.

Inside the frame, the metal decking has been completed, the staircases and lift shaft have been installed, and the floor slabs are well underway. This means we can walk around inside the building frame on our site visits, which is very exciting!

Over the summer, work on the structural framing system (SFS), which provides support for things like the brickwork, cladding, and windows, will continue. Morgan Sindall will also be carrying out roofing work, window installation, and continuing work on the sports pitches.

Away from the construction site, Callerton Academy students enjoyed a careers workshop during which they learned about jobs in the construction industry. We very much welcomed Morgan Sindall’s involvement with our first-ever charity week. This included covering the cost of cake baking ingredients, sponsoring refreshments, joining in with our litter pick, and organising some events of their own, such as running a raffle at a supply chain event and holding clothing and shoe collection and food bank drive at their Newcastle offices.

As an added bonus, the lucky students who visited the construction site to hold a bake sale during charity week also got to experience a 3D fly-through of the new school building and had the chance for some hands-on experience with the design applications.

We are very grateful for all the support we received and really enjoyed working with the Morgan Sindall team to help make the week such a huge success.

We hope you all enjoy the summer holidays and we look forward to sharing more details of how the building is progressing over the next school year.
