Permanent Site Updates

Callerton Academy Permanent Site Newsletter: March 2024

Welcome to our spring information update about the building programme for our new school. We're delighted to report that lots of progress has been made since our last update.

The excavators have been busy onsite, and bulk earthworks have been underway clearing materials and creating space for the stone build up to both the building and external areas. The grouting work has been completed and the contractor, Morgan Sindall, has been working on the upper car park area and setting up all the main site welfare facilities. There has also been a lot of work on drainage and the foundations for the teaching wing (where most of the classrooms are situated) have been completed.

Morgan Sindall has planned a series of engagement sessions with our Callerton Academy students, including a careers workshop to highlight the broad range of careers available in the construction industry to inspire the next generation of construction professionals.

A group of student representatives had an exciting visit to Harry Marsh Engineers Limited. The company are fabricating the steel components for the building framework. During the visit, students were given the opportunity to sign an exposed steel with chalk. The student’s signatures have been welded to become a permanent part of the steel frames which form part of the sports hall. This creates a visible link between the school’s students and its infrastructure.  The components of the steel frames are being delivered so that the steel frame can be erected over the next few weeks. To be selected for the visit to Harry Marsh Engineers Limited, students had to write a short message explaining why they should be chosen for the experience and what they loved most about Callerton Academy. From the process, nine students were chosen. Below are some of the statements made by students about the experience:

"My favourite part of today was seeing the programme used to plan the building - it's amazing to see where building a school begins." Breakthrough.

"I really enjoyed seeing the drawings of the building, it's exciting to know what the school building is going to look like!" Nuha.

"I enjoyed seeing the technical design of the building on the computer as this is a career I'd like to explore." Yousif.

The project continues to remain on schedule and on track for completion during the summer term 2025, ready for the start of the new school year in September 2025.

We hope you all enjoy the holidays.
