Poetry By Heart is a Nationwide Poetry Recital Competition which requires students to memorise poems from before and after 1914; they then perform them and try to bring the words to life as best they can. Callerton Academy submitted one group performance of Scarlett Curtis' 'My Brothers Have Not Read Little Women' which received a 'highly commended' award. Aaron, Erica and Yasmin received a commendation for their independent performances, whilst Jack received 'Best in County' for his! Well done to all of our students who very bravely put aside their stage fright and spent a lot of their free time preparing for this competition.

Our Year 7 reading celebrations continue.

"Well done, quarter millionaires! Reading 250, 000 words is a big achievement and we're very proud of you - keep it up!"

"Well done half millionaires! That's equivalent to reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone 25 times! Good job!"

"Congratulations on hitting a huge milestone, millionaire readers! 1 million words is incredible, and we're really proud of you and your commitment to your reading progress!"

This week, New Writing North presented their 25th annual awards ceremony. With over 3000 applications we could not be prouder that Callerton Academy secured not one, but two winners! Our very talented choir also performed songs, which were written by our students! We may be a small school at the moment, but our pupils are certainly making sure we make a big impact in our community.

On Monday we were presented with our CyberFirst Schools - Bronze Award. This is in recognition of our drive towards excellence in Computing and, in particular, in relation to cyber security. This will open up many new opportunities for school in these areas which we are hoping lots of our students will start to take advantage of in the coming years. Well done to Mai and Lydia who competed in the CyberFirst Girls' Competition early this year, and Sid for accepting the award from Nik Kelsey, Director of Education CyberFirst North East and Yorkshire, on our behalf.
