About the Academy

Come to work in a thriving and exciting community. Callerton Academy is a growing secondary school committed to providing the very best education for pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. Based in our excellent temporary site, formerly a school building which has been reconfigured in Newcastle’s Graingertown, we have access to a range of brilliant facilities, including a fully equipped DT classroom and a Food Technology classroom purposely built for this academic year. We will move to our brand-new site which will have capacity for 1200 students in 2025; this is located to the northwest of the city – close to Westerhope, Kingston Park and Newcastle International Airport.

About the role

We are one of two new schools within Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust and will be welcoming our fourth cohort of students when the position starts so will have Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. This is a wonderful opportunity for a dynamic, creative leader to help shape the future of our school, including developing an ambitious DT curriculum and leading on the introduction of DT specialisms at GCSE.

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who loves their subject and is passionate, proactive and innovative. You will have excellent subject knowledge and should be able to offer a couple of different DT specialisms at key stage 3, however, you may specialise in one specific discipline at key stage 4. You may already be a subject leader or a second in subject, or you may be ready to take your first step into subject leadership. You will have a proven record of raising attainment and accelerating progress, whilst demonstrating effective and exciting teaching and learning. We are particularly interested in someone who has experience in delivering GCSE Food Technology or GCSE Design Technology qualifications.

The DT department is on an exciting journey as it grows considerably over the next couple of years as the school grows with it. This is your chance to build a team of specialists and to shape an exciting pathway of choices at GCSE level in Design and Technology. We are developing a strong team of practitioners at Callerton Academy who are able to be versatile and are keen to be involved in many and varied aspects of school life; particularly during the coming years while the school is growing. You will be an important part of our growing school and will be a consummate professional, practical and ‘hands-on’; able to enthuse and motivate colleagues and students alike.

This is a unique chance for someone looking to develop as a leader within a highly successful and supportive school and multi academy trust, backed up by excellent resources and facilities.

What we need:
