Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisor

Start date: September 2023

Contract type: Permanent

Full time 37 hours per week, Term Time Only

Salary N6 (£24,224 - £26,553 actual gross salary)

Come to work in a thriving and exciting community. Callerton Academy is a growing secondary school committed to providing the very best education for pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. Based in our excellent temporary site, formerly a school building which has been reconfigured in Newcastle’s Graingertown, we have access to a range of brilliant facilities. We will move to our brand-new site which will have capacity for 1200 students in 2025; this is located to the northwest of the city – close to Westerhope, Kingston Park and Newcastle International Airport.

We are one of two new schools within Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust and will be welcoming our third cohort of students when the position starts meaning that we will have Years 7, 8 and 9. As a growing school and Multi-Academy Trust there are numerous opportunities for professional development and future career progression.

We are seeking a Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisor to join our pastoral support staff team at Callerton Academy. You will work closely with our other Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisor to provide pastoral support to students in our school. This will include mentoring and supporting individual students, managing student behaviour, meeting with parents and assisting students in line with the school’s policies and procedures. The post requires you to be part of the school’s safeguarding team, working with the DSL and Deputy DSL, and therefore this will sometimes require you to respond to sensitive and challenging situations.

The pastoral staff team at Callerton Academy consists of the following:

  • Senior Leader for Safeguarding, Behaviour and Attendance (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Lead Teacher of Key Stage Three (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisors
  • Attendance and Welfare Officer

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and is a creative, ‘hands on’ colleagues. As one of the main contacts for pastoral support to students in the school, you will be empathetic and practical in equal measure, as well as being able to be sensitive when required, yet firm when needing to challenge student behaviour. Ideally you will have experience working within a school environment or experience of working with young people in another context.

Primarily your role will be day to day pastoral support for our students, however the role will also occasionally involve some general lesson cover requiring you to supervise classes during the absence of the class teacher, as well as supporting students in isolation/internal exclusion.

Additionally, part of the role includes accompanying our students on the school transport service, starting at the Simonside Primary School Site, a couple of times a week. Working hours therefore will be 8am to 4pm.

We can offer you:

  • An opportunity to work with highly skilled professionals in school and across the MAT
  • Enthusiastic and motivated students
  • An exciting and extensive commitment to professional development
  • A school with its community at the heart
  • A programme of staff well-being activities
  • Opportunities for future career progression in a growing school and large Trust
  • Staff parking

We are developing a strong team of staff at Callerton Academy who are versatile and keen to be involved in many and varied aspects of school life; particularly during the coming years while the school is growing. You will be an important part of our growing school and will be a consummate professional, practical and ‘hands-on’; able to enthuse and motivate colleagues and students alike.

This is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference within a positive and exciting environment. If you share our community’s ethos of progression, diversity and dynamism then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Following the shortlisting process, where applicable, candidates who attend interview will be reimbursed reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation.

The Gosforth Group are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undergo enhanced DBS clearance.
