New Uniform Guidance for September 2026

As part of our ongoing commitment to equity, inclusion, and poverty proofing across our Trust (Gosforth Group), we have reviewed our school uniform expectations for September 2026.

This review follows updated Department for Education guidance on the affordability of school uniforms and reflects our determination to ensure that our uniform remains accessible to all families.

To support this, we have reduced the number of items that require a school logo to the following:

    • School navy round neck sweatshirt with logo*
    • School navy polo shirt with logo*
    • School royal blue PE polo shirt with logo*

*These items should be purchased from our approved uniform supplier, Michael Sehgal & Sons Ltd. Other items can be purchased from any supplier or retail store.

    School Coats

With immediate effect, families will no longer be required to purchase/provide a specific school coat. We understand that parents wish to choose a coat suitable for changing weather conditions, and we want to remove the need for pupils to own a separate coat exclusively for school.

To ensure coats remain practical and appropriate for school, we ask that they meet the following guidance:

    • Coats should be in keeping with our high expectations for standards of dress. Denim, leather, and camouflage-style coats are not permitted.
    • We recommend coats that are warm, waterproof, and include reflective elements to support pupil safety when travelling to and from school.
    • Coats must not be worn inside the school building, and pupils should be able to store them in their school bag during the day.
    • We strongly advise against purchasing expensive, branded coats. Please note that the school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to individual items.

Please note that the current uniform requirements remain unchanged until the end of the summer term.

From September 2026, the uniform requirements will be as follows...

    Main School Uniform:

    • A suitable warm and waterproof coat which can be stored in the school bag during the day (please see guidance above)
    • Navy polo shirt with logo*
    • Navy round neck sweatshirt with logo*
    • Plain black tailored school trousers, shorts or school skirts. Shorts and skirts must be knee-length and tailored
    • Plain black, sensible school footwear (trainers are not permitted)
    • Grey or black socks or black plain tights (not patterned).
    • A suitable school bag

    PE Uniform:

    • PE plain navy shorts or joggers or tracksuit bottoms
    • Plain royal blue or navy round neck sweatshirt
    • Royal blue polo shirt with logo*
    • Navy long sport socks
    • Training shoes with non-marking soles (no boots, plimsolls or black soled will be permitted)

    Current Uniform Requirements

At Callerton Academy, we pride ourselves on students being smart and ready to learn. Uniform allows all students to feel part of our community and it is important that we all follow simple uniform rules and have high expectations.

We expect students to come to school looking tidy and presentable.

Jewellery is restricted to a watch, a single flat ring worn on the finger and one pair of small plain stud earrings worn in separate ear lobes.

We reserve the right to confiscate or insist that students remove any item which contravenes these guidelines or which we deem to be a potential safety hazard.

Excessive makeup, false nails and nail varnish are not allowed.

Hair accessories should be plain black, navy or white and not excessive. Hairstyles must not be extreme, avant-garde or unnatural colour. We reserve the right to determine what is a reasonable style or colour of hair and to insist that students with inappropriate hairstyles have them restyled or coloured, wear a suitable covering or remain in isolation in school until we consider their hair to be acceptable.

If pupils wish to wear religious headwear, this should be plain black, navy or white.

Personal stereos must not be worn, nor should mobile phones be switched on or visible inside the building.

Hats, scarves, T-shirts, jeans, sportswear, boots or trainers of any colour must not be worn in school.

All children must wear a suitable school coat to and from school. Non-uniform items such as non-uniform fleeces or hoodies cannot be worn under school coats or over school sweatshirts.

If a child arrives at school not wearing the correct school uniform, they will face sanctions.

All students require the following main uniform items:

    • Black showerproof rain jacket* with or without school logo and/or black outdoor fleece* with or without school logo (both coats can be worn together) or any suitable school coat
    • Navy sweatshirt* with school logo
    • Navy polo shirt* with school logo
    • Black school skirt or trousers (no leggings or jeans)
    • Smart, plain black school shoes (not boots or trainers). Examples of suitable styles are below.

All students require the following PE uniform items:

    • Royal blue PE polo shirt* with school logo
    • Royal blue sweatshirt* with school logo or amber/navy long sleeved mid-layer with school logo
    • Navy long sports socks
    • Plain navy shorts, plus, navy leggings or navy training pants
