Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to share information about our residential trip for Year 7 students. This will take place in the first week following the Easter holidays.
We will leave Callerton at 10am on Monday 20th April and return at approx. 3:30pm on Wednesday 22nd April. For the first day, students will need to bring a packed lunch (students entitled to Free School Meals will be provided with one).
The trip is to Ford Castle near Berwick which is a residential and outdoor activity centre. Students will be able to experience a range of activities. These include archery, abseiling, trapeze and axe throwing to name but a few. In the evenings, there will be further activities, including games and a silent disco.
Students will stay in single sex dormitories and need to take their own bedding. All meals (from the first evening) are provided. There will be opportunities to take or buy further snacks. The venue has full time professional staff to coordinate all activities. Callerton Academy staff will also go to ensure all feel safe and supported.
We see this as an important opportunity for our Year 7. We are keen to encourage students to attend to celebrate settling into Callerton Academy. The trip will develop resilience and team working skills amongst out students. One of our key pledges as a school is to provide opportunities for our students. This includes an overnight stay with their peers. Students can learn more about themselves, grow their friendships and develop their independence. There are a finite number of places, and these will be available on a first come, first served basis. If the places are taken up, we will have a reserve list should any students drop out.
We have secured this trip at a reduced cost for students and have secured funding to subsidise the cost. The cost of the residential is £129.50. This includes two nights' accommodation, three days of activities, all meals, and travel. To make payment more manageable, we are asking for seven monthly instalments of £18.50 from September until March. The first payment is due by 30th September. By signing up and making your payment you are securing a place for your child on the trip. Please note that this is not refundable. Additionally, should your child sign up for a place and then later decide to withdraw this is also non-refundable. If your child were to be in serious breach of the school’s behaviour policy in the lead up to the trip, they would lose their place, and this again would be non-refundable.
