Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this letter finds you well and that you all had an enjoyable and safe half-term break. As you would expect at Callerton Academy we have a strong focus this half-term on Year 7 and Year 8 assessments and Year 11 Core Mock Exams.
We hope you found the Year 9 curriculum information evening useful. Please use the booklet available here and read through it with your child. During the next few weeks, they will meet with a member of staff to offer further support and guidance in selecting the right subjects for them. We appreciate parent and carer support in helping our students make the best choices for KS4 and beyond.
Parents of Year 11 students are invited to a 'Preparation for GCSE' event delivered by Curriculum Leaders of core subjects. This will be a talk in the Main Hall starting at 4.30pm.
There are a number of apprenticeship providers coming to Callerton Academy on 25th March to speak to our Y10 students. Students will work with four providers between 2.30 - 3.30pm. Additionally, parents are invited to attend with their child from 3.30 - 4.00pm to speak to any providers of their choice. A list of providers is included below:
Tyneside Training Services
Newcastle Council
Lomax Training
Responsive Engineering
Arnold Clark

We are delighted to share that there has been a really encouraging increase in the number of students who have achieved the 100% attendance award this half-term. Please continue to reinforce with your child how important regular attendance is so they can fully access their lessons, enjoy extra‑curricular opportunities and spend valuable time with their friends. If you have any concerns about anything that may affect your child’s attendance, please contact the pastoral team so we can work together to support them.
We would like to remind you that your child may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).
Applying is quick and simple. You can apply online here.
If you require support with your application, please come into the school office where a member of staff will be happy to help you complete a paper form.
If you would like to check whether your child is currently in receipt of Free School Meals, please contact the school office and we will be happy to confirm this for you.
If you think you may be eligible, we encourage you to apply.
Please find our current school menus for your information here.
The menus run on a three-week cycle, and they rotate every three weeks. This enables us to provide a varied and balanced selection of meals for the children.
If you have any questions regarding the menu or your child’s dietary requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
From 23/02/2026, if a student’s iPay account reaches a debt of over £10, they will be provided with a basic meal option priced at £2.60. This meal will consist of a sandwich and a piece of fruit. Water fountains remain available in the dining hall for all students.
To ensure your child can continue to access the full meal options available each day, please make sure their iPay account is kept in credit. Alternatively, students are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home.
We kindly ask that you check your child’s account balance regularly and top up as needed to avoid any disruption.
If you have any questions or require support, please contact the school office.
As a reminder, we have a Breakfast Club from 8.00 to 8.25am every morning. All students are welcome to come along to have food, socialise and to get any support they need before the school day starts. Students can enter the building via the Main Reception.
On 3rd March, the school immunisation team will be having a catch-up session for years 9, 10 and 11 for the Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio (Td/IPV) and Meningitis ACWY (MenACWY). If your child missed out on the immunisation, and you would like to give consent, then please use the link and school code to complete before Monday 2nd March 2026. NB148573

As we enter Spring term, coats are no longer compulsory. The Trust has changed the coat policy with immediate effect – no longer plain black. Students have to carry/put it in their bag.
A polite reminder to families who drop off or pick up their children from school that we should be respectful of our residents. Please do not park in front of residents’ driveways. Additionally, we have had a few concerned members of the public contacting us about a minority of students behaving unsafely on the roads. We continue to raise road safety with students in assembly and ask that you please also do so at home.
Thank you again for your ongoing support.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs Innes
Principal
