    • Callerton Academy Partners with Luzhansk Secondary School in Ukraine

      Published 28/03/25

We are thrilled to announce that Callerton Academy has officially partnered with Luzhansk Secondary School in the Zakarpattia region of Ukraine. This exciting collaboration is part of the British Council’s UK-Ukraine School Partnerships programme, funded by the Department for Education, and aims to strengthen connections between our communities through a shared passion for reading.

As one of 100 schools participating in this initiative - 50 from the UK and 50 from Ukraine - we will focus on using literature as a way to broaden our perspectives, build confidence, and support mental wellbeing. Our classes will engage in joint activities that not only promote reading for pleasure but also enhance our understanding of each other’s cultures.

Katie Innes, our Principal, expressed her excitement about this partnership: "We are proud to take part in the UK-Ukraine School Partnerships program. It is an opportunity to inspire our students to discover the joy of reading while equipping them with the skills to connect with diverse cultures. This initiative aligns perfectly with our Trust's mission to educate, support, and nurture all students, regardless of their background or ability."

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pineapple Lane Publishing for their generous donation of books. Their support provides a creative means of response to the challenges faced by students in Ukraine, emphasizing the role of literature in offering comfort, escape, and inspiration. These resources are essential for fostering a deeper understanding of language and culture among our students.

Our Year 7 student, Casper, shared his enthusiasm: “I can’t wait to meet the other class and make friends in a different country!”

The UK-Ukraine School Partnerships programme is a vital component of the 100-Year Partnership between the UK and Ukraine, dedicated to reinforcing bilateral relations across various sectors, including education. This flagship initiative, delivered by the British Council in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, highlights the importance of cross-cultural understanding and brings international perspectives into our classrooms.

Shannon West, Head of UK Schools at the British Council, noted, “Creating opportunities for young people has been central to the British Council’s mission for 90 years. We are excited to collaborate with so many schools through this programme, providing students with the global outlook and skills they need to thrive in our interconnected world while strengthening the ties between the UK and Ukraine.”

We look forward to this enriching experience and the lasting connections that will be formed through our partnership!

    • Uniform Change Announcement

      Published 06/12/24

      Dear Parents and Carers,

Change to school coats purchased through Michael Sehgal

We would like to inform you about an update regarding our school coats. While a school coat purchased from Michael Sehgal is still required and our school uniform policy remains unchanged, our uniform supplier's new stock of our school coats will no longer feature the school logo. Please be assured that your child should continue to wear their current school coats, which carry the school logo until this needs to be replaced due to wear or fit.

Removing the school logo will facilitate stock sharing across all our schools within our Trust, and our parents/carers may get more value from the school coat as without the logo, children can wear their school coats outside of school. This change will also make it easier to pass on unwanted, yet in still good condition, coats to family members or friends who may benefit from them.

Please note that while the coats will no longer carry the school logo, they remain a required part of our uniform policy and should continue to be purchased through our designated uniform supplier, Michael Sehgal, based in Kingston Park. Our uniform supplier will continue to sell the existing stock of our school coats, which have a school logo on them until this stock runs out and is replaced with the new stock of coats without a logo.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement this change. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school office.

      Yours sincerely

      Katie Innes, Principal
